about

I wrote ‘Map the Stars’ while feeling a sense of resignation that some dreams, over time, fade into darkness. Despite this, an ember of optimism remains. In a fast-paced, self-obsessed world, “Will you stay a while and help me to map the stars? Will you take the time to see if this moment is ours?” is yearning to take a step away from the madness and establish a connection, meaning, and a path through the noise.”

He added: “During the lockdowns of 2020, I upgraded my home studio to record a collection of new songs, including this one. My good friend, Jack Williams, recorded some beautiful piano parts to finish it off earlier this year. Jack has played on two of my previous singles, ‘Lemonade Sea’ and ‘Pale Jacket’.

lyrics

When I was a young boy,
All my dreams
Seemed to lie within my reach.
Now I’m older,
My heart’s getting colder
And my vision is growing weak.

Will you stay a while
And help me to map the stars?
Will you take the time
To see if this moment is ours?

Friends turn to strangers
When you’re up in the clouds,
Wires get crossed and you wind up alone.
But I’ve got an ember alive in the cold,
Fuelling my spirit while the rain’s falling down.

Will you stay a while
And help me to map the stars?
Will you take the time
To see if this moment is ours?

Lines on my hand chart my mistakes,
Face in the mirror that never wakes
From a dream that’s lucid and true.
I won’t give up until the game is through.

Will you stay a while
And show me how to see the stars?
Will you take the time
And tell me that this moment is ours?
